Apps
Splitwise- if you are traveling with a group and want to simplify the ‘who owes who’ payout at the end of your trip.
Google translate- download the destination language in advance for live translation and image translation on the go. Especially helpful for things like parking signs and menus.
Airline and tour apps- printing tickets is mostly a thing of the past. Downloading your airline app and tour company apps in advance simplifies your travel.

Items
- Your passport! And visas, if your destination requires them.
- Good walking shoes/ sandals/ boots. In general, unless you are packing for a special event and/or have copious amounts of luggage space, I don’t recommend bringing any shoes that aren’t comfortable- you won’t need them.
- Clothes.
- Toothpaste/brush. Travel sized toiletries.
- Snacks, especially if you have any food restrictions.
- Outlet converter and chargers
- Day pack bag that zips closed
- Depending on your destination, an anti-theft phone strap
- Compression socks for the flight (I know, they aren’t that cute, but really help with circulation, comfort, and health.)

Tips for Packing Light
I’m a big advocate in packing everything in a carry-on because I like to take public transportation and I find it exhausting to drag my body weight in luggage behind me.
Think through your itinerary, your access to a washing machine, and the forecast. In general, it’s best to pack mix-n-match layers. Don’t bother bringing the dress that’s been in the back of your closet for the past 3 years. While it’s a nice adventure for the dress, it just takes up luggage space better spent on souvenirs.
If you are traveling in a group or for many days, most destinations have access to a pharmacy or grocery store where you can buy most toiletries (shampoo, etc) saving yourself the luggage space and weight.
